Join the Adelphi community for a book reading with Jennifer Fleischner, Ph.D. The event is free and open to the public.
Jennifer Fleischner, Ph.D., is an acclaimed author and professor in the University’s Department of English who suggests that Adelphi has long been an institution of dynamic change.
In her book A History of Adelphi University, released in March 2015, Dr. Fleischner chronicles the University from its founding in 1863 in Brooklyn as the Adelphi Academy to its current state as a modern world-class educational institution. Through chapters devoted to the tenures of Adelphi’s successive presidents, the work depicts the University’s periods of growth and tension, presenting a historically sweeping and vibrant view of changes at Adelphi within the context if the broader changes in American higher education and women and slavery, as well as a historical novel, Nobody’s Boy, set in antebellum St. Louis, Missouri. She has taught at Adelphi University since 2002. The hardcover edition of A History of Adelphi University is available through the Adelphi University bookstore and was made available as an e-book last April.
This event is sponsored by University Archives and Special Collections.
