Curated by Professor Kellyann Monaghan, this showcase highlights select paintings from current students in the Adelphi University Art Department.
“Created from observation, both on site and from secondhand resources, the paintings on view are from two distinct classes. One class was dedicated entirely to the study of the landscape and the other an introductory course in painting with a few weeks dedicated to working directly on site. The students worked with plein air and alla prima painting techniques, which presented the challenges of working quickly from outdoor locations. The students learned to paint swiftly with limited time, fleeting light and changing weather conditions. They painted both on campus and from trips to nearby locations including: The Planting Fields Arboretum, Old Westbury Gardens, Glen Cove Beach and the Brooklyn Waterfront. The students also worked from sketches and photos to develop more detailed and independent studio paintings.”
