About this course

Level 2, the second part of this three-part EMDR training, like Level 1, will be an experiential workshop combining lecture, demonstration, and practice that builds on the skills taught in Level 1 by introducing, treatment planning, preparation, complex issues and what to do when a client’s processing gets “stuck”.  Participants will spend approximately 40% of their time in small groups experiencing EMDR both as a client and implementing it as a clinician.

Part 3 is conveniently scheduled as a two day workshop and is included in the cost. Please note the EMDR International Association requires 10 hours of consultation to complete the basic training. We will be offering this over the course of two days so that we can ensure that participants will successfully integrate the learning in the basic training and be prepared to do direct treatment with their clients. These days will include case presentations, practice time and demonstration. Additional certification is available post basic training. See the criteria below for advanced certification through EMRIA.

Learning Objectives for Levels 2 & 3

The participant will learn the following:

  • Treatment plans for EMDR therapy
  • The use of EMDR beyond PTSD to include the treatment of anxiety, depression, attachment, performance, self-esteem
  • Resource Development and Installation for stabilization and preparation for processing
  • The Cognitive Interweave and other advanced EMDR procedures for blocked processing
  • Strategies for using EMDR with clients with complex trauma
  • Strategies for using EMDR with Dissociative Disorders, Children and Couples

Who may attend?

EMDR training is open to mental health professionals who are licensed (or certified or registered) by their state for independent practice. The training is also open to advanced graduate students, interns, and other mental health professionals on a licensure track, with a letter of support from their supervisor, who have completed the EMDR Level 1 training requirements.

About the Instructor

colelliGina Colelli, LCSW, a 23-year EMDR Therapy practitioner and trainer, has provided thousands of hours of training and consultation in addition to her treatment of clients with EMDR. She brings a wealth of experience to her work along with a loving compassion for the traumatized and concrete skills, a combination facilitative of healing and bringing clients to a state of mental health. Colelli’s trainings are clear, lively and focused on integrating the existing skills of her workshop participants with new knowledge and skills specific to EMDR. Teaching this way requires an instructor capable of enhancing a clinician’s current skills with her enthusiasm while introducing a new paradigm that makes sense both in practice and method.

Colelli has presented at the annual EMDRIA conference for the last two decades and at numerous professional and public forums. She coordinated and lead the Humanitarian Assistance Project of the New York City EMDR Trauma Recovery Network from 9/11 through 2015. Specializing in the treatment of recent-traumatic event survivors and adults abused and neglected as children, she has written on EMDR and its application to these populations.  Gina maintains a private practice in New York City.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between receiving an “EMDR Basic Training Certificate of Completion” vs. becoming “Certified EMDR Therapist?”

Upon completion of EMDR Training (Levels 1, 2 and 3), participants will receive an EMDR Training Certificate from Adelphi University.  This attests to a basic knowledge of EMDR which certificate holders should be able to implement with some of their clients. Upon completion of the training, participants are eligible to join EMDR International Association (EMDRIA) and begin working toward  EMDRIA certification which attests to a level of expertise beyond that of an EMDR beginner.

In order to become a “Certified EMDR Therapist,” however, you must:

  • Have one’s license/certification/registration to practice independently as a mental health professional.
  • Become a member of EMDRIA – the EMDR International Association
  • Meet the requirements set by EMDRIA to become a “Certified EMDR Therapist”:
    • Completion of the EMDR Training
    • Complete a minimum of 20 hours of consultation beyond the Basic training by an Approved Consultant in EMDR
  • at least 10 hours through individual face-to- face
  • the remaining 10 hours may be obtained through small groups
    • Conduct a minimum of 50 EMDR trauma sessions with no fewer than 25 clients
    • Complete 12 hours of CE’s in EMDR after completion of EMDR Training
This program has been approved for CE credits by the New York State Education Department’s State Board for Social Work. Adelphi University School of Social Work is an approved provider of continuing education for licensed social workers #0032.
