Event, Collaboration Project Initiative Event

racial-justice-matters-logoFrancis Madi, New York Immigration Coalition, Regional Outreach Associate

Long Island has seen a tremendous growth in its Latino population in the 21st Century and students and Long Islanders interact with Latinos daily, particularly in their work as landscapers, domestic workers, and food service workers.

Exploring the role of race and immigration status, Francis Madi will discuss the needs of local Latinos and the advocacy efforts that address them, including the role of lobbying to promote immigrant rights. The Long Island Immigration Coalition is located in Hempstead and Francis Madi will additionally offer students a sense of the sort of internships, volunteering, and campus actions they can engage in to promote the well being of Long Island immigrants.

This event is part of Racial Justice Matters and the AU Community Reads initiative, and it is cosponsored by the Collaboration Project, Department of Political ScienceDepartment of Sociology, Criminal Justice, General Studies, Levermore Global Scholars, and the Criminal Justice Club
