Discover and Explore your Passion – Annual High School Special Event Series

On April 13, 2016, embark on a journey of metaphors and similes, creation and exploration, rants and raves, snaps and claps and infinite fun! At Poetry Day, you will enjoy workshops taught by our acclaimed faculty, and inventive keynote speaker, an awards ceremony to unveil the poetry winners, a poetry slam element and more.

Please note that registration for Poetry Day is now closed as the event has reached capacity. 

Poetry Contest Submissions

To submit poetry to the poetry contest, please be sure to follow the instructions listed below. Any materials received that are not in accordance with these guidelines may be disqualified.

  • Students may submit up to five pages (single-sided) of poetry (one poem per page for a maximum of five poems).
  • The following information must appear on the front page of the student’s manuscript:
    • Student’s name
    • Student’s grade
    • High school
    • Teacher
    • Title of manuscript
  • The following information must appear on each page of poetry:
    • Student’s name
    • High school
    • Student’s grade
  • Students must participate in Poetry Day to receive an award. All students must attend Poetry Day with a faculty advisor.
  • All Poetry Contest submission must be emailed to by Monday, April 4, 2016 with the subject “Poetry Contest”.
Please email your signed Photo Release Form to or you must bring them the day of the event. Learn more about Adelphi’s English and Creative Writing department.
