This program is an intensive year-long training program designed for parent educators and/or clinicians who work with parents. Its goal is to promote a deepened understanding of the theories, values and principles that inform this work. There is a growing body of knowledge supporting the notion that parent guidance and the participation of parents in parent education programs, enhances parent-child interaction leading to healthy development in children in important ways, i.e., social-emotional, cognitive, language, etc. Through the theoretical lenses of attachment, emotional regulation and interpersonal neurobiology- to name a few- participants will build a solid foundation of knowledge about parents and children. Child development will be studied from infancy through adolescence across a variety of domains. Also there will be a focus on the developing parent-child relationship. The inextricable links between each domain will be examined. A seminar on the processes of program delivery and the principles of parent guidance will provide the skills and information for the application of this new knowledge.
Through these ongoing seminars as well as five (5) full-day workshops, participants will study a wide range of information. They will be immersed in a learning process that will focus on the challenges, issues, and dilemmas that shape their work with parents. Participants will learn important concepts in working with developing families, while enhancing their skills to model, teach and reinforce parents’ ability to create the healthiest of environments for their children.
