Psychology Day 2015Join us in bringing the Gordon F. Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies family together on a day to celebrate psychology, our community and our founder, while teaching current and future students what the Institute offers.  

At the event, we will celebrate the 100th birthday of Gordon F. Derner, Ph.D., and hear from keynote speaker Hakeem Rahim, a National Alliance on Mental Illness representative who will talk about living with mental illness. The event will also feature small discussion groups, an alumni roundtable and faculty discussion, including talks from experts in the fields of addictions counseling, clinical psychology, human resource management, mental health counseling and school psychology.


Schedule of Events:

11:00 a.m.–12:45 p.m. Faculty brunch and relevant discussion
1:30 p.m.–2:30 p.m. Keynote Speaker Presentation by Hakeem Rahim (Thomas Dixon Lovely Ballroom, Ruth S. Harley University Center)
2:30 p.m.–4:00 p.m. Discussion group sessions, led by students and Hakeem Rahim
4:15 p.m.–5:30 p.m. Career Pathways and Mental Health discussion hosted by alumni
6:00 p.m.–7:00 p.m. Dessert reception and brief presentation of Derner history

*all events will be in the Campbell Lounge except noted. 

Hakeem-RahimHakeem Rahim has years of experience mentoring and counseling youth. He is certified in Edward de Bono’s Six Thinking Hats and lateral thinking methodologies, and is a consultant with The de Bono Group, LLC, and an accredited life coach. An experienced public speaker on mental health and education, Rahim is a certified National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) In Our Voice presenter.
