A leading ethnobotanist, Michael Balick, Ph.D., discusses the study of plants used in traditional healing by indigenous cultures. In particular, he describes his work since 1987 with a naprapathic physician in Belize. Dr. Balick is also vice president for botanical science at the New York Botanical Garden, where he cofounded the Institute of Economic Botany.
