Abraham Triestram to Speak on European Growth and Political Change

"Will the 21st Century be the European Century?" explores issues of European growth and political change.

Garden City, NY
May 30, 2000

Abraham Triestram will speak at Adelphi University on Tuesday, June 13. The lecture, entitled, "Will the 21st Century be the European Century?," begins at 1:00 PM in the Ruth S. Harley University Center on Adelphi's Garden City campus. The event is free and open to the public.

Abraham Triestram is the former liaison officer for the Netherlands and briefing officer in the office of information and press of the International Secretariat of NATO. He was also adviser to the Commander-in-Chief of Allied Forces Central Europe. His lecture explores issues of European growth and political change.

The new millennium will see the enlargement of the European Union (EU) from fifteen states to more than twenty. This will have major consequences for all Europeans. The EU will consist of about 400 million consumers, almost twice the number of the United States. The EU will have to reform its institutions as well as contend with the Russian Federation. If these obstacles are surmountable, the integration of the future political and security dimension of the EU will be decisive and the twenty-first century, Mr. Triestram contends, will indeed be European.

The lecture is co-sponsored by Adelphi University's departments of political science, history, international studies, and the Adelphi University School of Business. For more information, please call 516.877.4590.
