Adelphi University's Second Annual President's Gala to Be Held on March 16, 2002
Four Long Islanders Will Receive Awards

On Saturday March 16, at Adelphi's Second Annual President's Gala, Adelphi president Dr. Robert A. Scott will present awards to four community leaders: Carol and John P. Finnerty, Vincent A. Fusco and Suzy Sonenberg. The cocktail hour will begin at 7:00 PM, dinner and dancing at 8:00 PM All proceeds from the Gala, a black tie affair, will be used for student scholarships. Vincent A. Fusco will receive the 2002 Outstanding Long Island Executive Award. Mr. Fusco is the Field Vice President of Allstate Insurance Company's New York State Region as well as the Chief Operations Officer and a director of the Allstate Life Insurance Company of New York. He currently serves as a board member of Neighborhood Housing Services of New York and on the board of advisers of Adelphi University's School of Business.
Suzy Sonenberg will receive the 2002 Outstanding Alumna Award. Ms. Sonenberg has been the Executive Director of the Long Island Community Foundation since March 1988. Ms. Sonenberg received a Masters Degree in Social Work from Adelphi University in 1976, and has taught social policy on a graduate and undergraduate level at the Adelphi University School of Social Work. She is also a member of the Advisory Board of the Adelphi University School of Social Work.
Carol and John P. Finnerty will receive the 2002 Outstanding Service to Adelphi Award. Carol A. Finnerty is a retired educator from the North Merrick School District. During her twenty-five year teaching career, she worked primarily with children in intermediate grades working in an inclusion program. Carol earned her Masters Degree in Elementary Education from Adelphi University in 1976. John P. Finnerty is the President of WJM Associates, Inc., a recognized leading consulting firm specializing in enhancing individual and organizational effectiveness. He received his Master's Degree in Banking and Money Management from Adelphi University in 1977.
