Author Alice Hoffman ’73 to Address Class of 2002 at Adelphi’s 106th Commencement
Ms. Hoffman and two other distinguished alumni will receive honorary degrees

President Robert A. Scott has announced that author Alice Hoffman will deliver the annual Commencement Address when Adelphi University graduates its class of 2002 on Sunday, May 19, 2002 at 9:00 a.m. The occasion marks the 106th Commencement ceremony for the University.
Hoffman will speak to students on "how to survive in the real world."
Hoffman is a best-selling author who earned a degree in English from Adelphi University in 1973. With her unique style of writing, she has written such award-winning works as Property Of, The Drowning Season, and Angel Landing, among many others. Her novels have been translated into more than twenty languages with over 100 foreign editions and have received mention as notable books of the year by the New York Times, Entertainment Weekly, the Los Angeles Times, Library Journal, and People Magazine.
Honorary degrees will be given to Ms. Hoffman; Horace George McDonell ’52, former CEO of Perkin Elmer Corporation; and Betty Jane Scheihing MBA ’86, Senior Vice President of Arrow Electronics Inc.
On the morning of May 19, Adelphi students will receive bachelor's master's, and doctoral degrees from Adelphi’s seven schools: the College of Arts and Sciences, the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, School of Business, School of Education, School of Nursing, School of Social Work, and the Gordon F. Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies. Students in Adelphi’s Honors College will receive their degrees from the schools in which they majored.
Students will receive their individual degrees in separate school ceremonies later in the afternoon.
