Robert Lawn states: "In the littoral zone, that coastal area between the tides where much of my inspiration lies, plants, animals and mineral forms are actors in the circle of life. They live, die, break, wash out to sea, feed sea life, smash and tumble on coastal rocks; back on the land they bleach in the sun, decompose, and return in new life."

Adelphi University, chartered in 1896, was the first institution of higher education for liberal arts and sciences on Long Island.
