Adelphi University Announces Events To Mark The Anniversary Of September 11
Although classes will be held and Adelphi will operate on a normal schedule, several memorial events have been planned

Garden City, NY
August 30, 2002

September 11, 2002
10:29am
In response to New York State Governor George E. Pataki's request, Adelphi and all other New York institutions will toll their bells at 10:29am, the time the second tower collapsed "on that most tragic day." Therefore, all University business, including classes, will pause for five (5) minutes of remembrance and the Adelphi University carillon will toll. Those who wish to do so may assemble with President Scott at the flagpole for a silent remembrance.
Other significant times are 8:46am (first attack to the World Trade Center's North Tower); 9:03am (second attack to the South Tower); and 9:59am (collapse of the first tower). Observing moments of silence at these times will be a personal, not a campus-wide, choice.
1:00pm
The Center for Cross-Cultural Enrichment and the Muslim Students Association will sponsor an interactive town meeting in the University Center Ballroom at 1:00pm. The program is entitled "A Year of Reflection," and President Scott will participate as one of five speakers. Audience participation is encouraged.
2:00pm
At the conclusion of the 1:00pm program, President Scott will lead the audience to the flagpole for an interfaith service with the University chaplains.
7:30pm
At 7:30pm, there will be a candlelight remembrance at the flagpole to which all are invited.
Because this will be an emotional day for the University community, the Student Counseling Center, the University chaplains, and Derner's Center for Psychological Services will provide additional and enhanced grief and supportive services. Throughout the day, a silent memorial (memorial banner) will be available in the University Center lobby for those who wish to share their thoughts. AU-TV (campus television) will broadcast news coverage of all national events.
