Adelphi University Presented A Public Education Symposium:
"Our Children at Risk"
Symposium explored the link between environmental exposures and childhood health and developmental problems

Garden City, NY
October 11, 2002

Dr. Philip J. Landrigan, Director of the Center for Children's Health and the Environment, and Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., a leading environmental lawyer and Sr. Attorney for the Natural Resources Defense Council both spoke to a packed house at Adelphi's Ruth S. Harley University Center during a recent public education symposium held there.
The symposium, "Our Children at Risk", which was held on October 10, 2002, featured Dr. Landrigan as keynote speaker. "Our Children at Risk" focused on the link between environmental exposures and childhood health and developmental problems, with information on what is harming our children and what we can do to protect them.
A growing body of scientific research suggests that children are at risk of health and developmental problems caused by their exposure to chemical toxins in the environment. The public symposium included a research update featuring videotaped interviews with research scientists Elizabeth Guillette, Ph.D. (Tulane University), John Wargo, Ph.D. (Yale University) and Frederica Perera, Ph.D. (Columbia University) presented by Patti Wood, Executive Director, Grassroots Environmental Education, co-sponsor of the symposium.
NYS Assemblyman Tom DiNapoli and NYS Senator Michael Balboni were on hand to present the symposium's legislative report. Audience members were encouraged to participate in a question and answer section during the symposium. Video footage of the October 10th symposium is available for viewing online at Adelphi's RealMediaTM Archive of Past Events at Adelphi University.
