Ahner will be an asset in further enhancing the scheduling of quality programs at Adelphi

Garden City, NY
October 17, 2002

Adelphi University is pleased to announce the appointment of Henry F. Ahner as Associate Provost for Administration, effective immediately. His responsibilities will include oversight of academic budgets and course scheduling.
An Adelphi employee since 1967, he is a tenured professor and was Chair of the Physics Department, participated in numerous faculty committees, and served briefly as an Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Science. For nine years Professor Ahner was Director of the University's Core Curriculum.
His appointment comes at a time of tremendous growth for the University and coincides with Adelphi being named Business LI's 2002 top pick in the education industry. Provost Marcia G. Welsh states: "Henry brings a history of cooperation with faculty and administration that will be an asset in further enhancing the scheduling of quality programs at Adelphi."
The teaching of these students, in Adelphi's traditional small classes by experienced regular full-time faculty, involves the cooperation of both faculty and administration to create a comprehensive learning environment. Growth in the last three years has come not only from Adelphi's traditional strengths in its professional schools and the College of Arts and Science but also from the addition of new programs in criminal justice, educational administration and technology, environmental studies, international studies, mental health nursing, and nursing service administration.
Adelphi University, chartered in 1896, was the first institution of higher education for liberal arts and sciences on Long Island. Through its schools and programs - The College of Arts and Science, the Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological studies, the Honors College, University College/ABLE Program, and the Schools of Business, Education, Nursing and Social Work - the co-educational university offers undergraduate and graduate degrees, as well as professional and educational programs for adults. With its main campus in Garden City and centers in Manhattan, Hauppauge, and Poughkeepsie, the University maintains a commitment to liberal studies in tandem with rigorous professional preparation.
