Adelphi University Presents
"The Black Presence in Civilization: At Home and Abroad"
The exhibit will open January 20, 2003

Adelphi University is pleased to present "The Black Presence in Civilization: At Home and Abroad," an exhibition curated by Professor Hugh A. Wilson. The exhibit be held January 20, 2003 through February 20 in the University Center Gallery (Adelphi University, 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY 11530; directions).

There will be a reception on Tuesday, February 4 at 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 PM. Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM. For more information about the exhibit, please contact Richard Vaux in the department of Art and Art History at 516. 877.4460.

"The exhibit will seek to detail the myriad and the abundant contributions that Africans and people of African ancestry in the Diaspora have made to the world from the dawn of civilization to the present. The exhibit will be in seven parts: The African Origins of the Civilization; the Aesthetic Traditions; the Intellectual Traditions; The Warrior Traditions; Adventures and Pioneers; Science; Inventors and Industry; Nobel Laureates," states Professor Hugh Wilson.
