Kelly-Ann Monaghan, Adelphi University Visiting Artist 2003, is exhibiting a new group of paintings based on New York interiors and Cityscapes. She uses the night sky, rooftops and interiors as stage of exploration for light, air and movement. She captures the otherworldly quality of the city through the light filled sky, with its ever present interjection of light pollution. The interiors such as Grand Central Station are empty but mysterious, which depict the impression of human presence with mystery, atmosphere and illumination.

"I find the nuances of light and architecture to generate a constant awe and surprise. At times the awe is when you are hoping to see it and other moments it is a surprise in the mundane spaces. The painting process is not an analytical process for me, but it is a revelation every time I enter the studio, stand on a roof top, or walk down the street," states Monaghan.
