Adelphi University Presents UN-World Health Organization Exhibit on "Poverty and Health: Challenges to Development in Africa"

Adelphi University presents "Poverty and Health: Challenges to Development in Africa," an exhibit in the Ruth S. Harley University Center Lobby developed by the Regional Office for Africa of the World Health Organization at the United Nations. The exhibit is sponsored by The Adelphi University International Initiatives Committee and opens with a reception on Friday March 7, 2003, introduced by three dignitaries from the World Health Organization. The exhibit will be open to the public following the reception and Gallery hours will be Monday through Saturday 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM until Friday March 14, 2003.

It provides a comprehensive overview of what can be achieved in public health through advocacy, reform, disease control, and monitoring and advocates health intervention as an entry point to reduce poverty in Africa. The exhibit demonstrates what can be done by focusing on a number of major public health issues in Africa including epilepsy, malaria, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, and high rates of maternal mortality and childhood illness.

There will be a reception on Friday March 7, 2003 at 2:00 PM. The program will begin wwith an introduction by Dr. Ebrahim Samba, Regional Director of WHO for Africa; Dr. Fabrizio Bassani, Executive Director of the WHO at the UN, and Dr. Doyin Oluwole, Director, Family and Reproductive Health Division, WHO Regional Office in Africa.
