Adelphi University Hosts Third Annual President's Gala
An Evening to Benefit Student Scholarships

On Saturday March 29, 2003, Adelphi University will host its third annual President's Gala at The Garden City Hotel in Garden City, New York. The cocktail hour will begin at 7:00 PM, with dinner at 8:00 PM. The Gala, a black tie affair, will further honor three community leaders: John R. Bransfield, Jr., Raymond A. Jansen and The Honorable Claire Shulman. For tickets and further information, please call Dina Zydor at 516.877.4688.
All proceeds from the Gala will be used for student scholarships.
Raymond A. Jansen will receive the 2003 Outstanding Long Island Executive Award. Mr. Jansen is publisher, president and chief executive officer of Newsday. A Long Island native, he began his career at Newsday while still in high school and joined the paper full-time after graduating from Syracuse University. After 22 years at Newsday and 12 years at The Hartford Courant, where he was the publisher and chief executive officer, he returned to Long Island's daily paper as publisher, president and chief executive officer in 1994.
John J. Bransfield, Jr. will receive the 2003 Outstanding Alumnus Award. John R. Bransfield, Jr. received an M.S. from Adelphi University in 1979 and is the President and COO of Roslyn Savings Bank.
Claire Shulman will receive the Outstanding Service to Adelphi. Ms. Shulman is a graduate of Adelphi University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1946, and was awarded an honorary degree in 1990. In 1986 she became the first woman to be elected Borough President of Queens County.
Adelphi University, chartered in 1896, was the first institution of higher education for liberal arts and sciences on Long Island.
