Eliot Spitzer to Speak on Children, Health and the Environment at Adelphi University
"Our Children at Risk II" Symposium to be held on April 2, 2003

On Wednesday, April 2nd, New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer will join two of the nation's leading children's environmental health experts at a second in a series ofpublic health symposia at Adelphi University, "Our Children at Risk II - Protecting Children fromEnvironmental Exposures" to discuss specific steps which parents, educators and other decision makers can take to protect children from harmful toxins in their environment.

The symposium, which is being co-sponsored by Grassroots Environmental Education,will the held from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon at the Ruth S. Harley University Center, Adelphi University, Garden City. Along with the Attorney General will be Dr. Herbert Needleman, professor of pediatrics and child psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr. Needleman was largely responsible for alerting physicians and policy makers to the threat which lead posed to children's health. He has served as an expert consultant to the Environmental Protection Agency, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and many state and local agencies. He co-authored the book, Raising Healthy Children in a Toxic World.

Also addressing the symposium will be Dr. John Wargo, Director of the Center for Children's Health and the Environment at Yale University. Dr. Wargo is a nationallyrecognized expert on risk analysis and has written extensively on childhood exposures to complex mixtures of toxic substances, especially pesticides. He is the author of Our Children's Toxic Legacy: How Science and Law Fail to Protect Us From Pesticides which received the Award of Excellence in Medical Communications from the American Medical Writers Association.
