UN General Assembly President Jan Kavan To Address Adelphi University

Garden City, NY
April 17, 2003

Adelphi University is proud to present the Honorable Jan Kavan, President of the fifty-seventh session of the United Nations General Assembly, as part of its Ambassadorial Lecture Series. The lecture will take place on Tuesday, April 22 at 1:30 PM at Adelphi's Alumni House at One Cambridge Avenue.
Ambassador Kavan's presentation will draw upon the full range of his diplomatic experience, both in the Czech Republic and throughout his 20 years of political exile in the United Kingdom. An advocate of democracy and human rights, he is currently a Deputy in the Czech Parliament.
Jan Kavan has been a highly visible UN spokesperson in the last few weeks not only on the construction of the economy and reconstruction of the industrial infrastructure of Iraq, but also in the political transformation to a more democratic, free and independent Iraq. His topical presentation will certainly address whether the legitimacy of any interim post-war administration would be in question if the United Nations was not involved.
The lecture is sponsored by the Adelphi's International Initiatives Committee, which is also sponsoring the visit of Sir Jeremy Quentin Greenstock, the Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom to the United Nations, on Tuesday April 29, 2003.
Adelphi University, chartered in 1896, was the first institution of higher education for liberal arts and sciences on Long Island. Through its schools and programs -- The College of Arts and Sciences, the Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies, the Honors College, University College/ABLE Program, and the Schools of Business, Education, Nursing, and Social Work -- the co-educational university offers undergraduate and graduate degrees through post-doctoral study, as well as professional and educational programs for adults. Adelphi University currently enrolls over 7,700 students from 37 states and 60 foreign countries. With its main campus in Garden City and centers in Manhattan, Hauppauge, and Poughkeepsie, the University maintains a commitment to liberal studies as the foundation for rigorous professional preparation and active citizenship.
