Sir Jeremy Quentin Greenstock to Address Adelphi University
"Winning the Peace in Iraq"

MEDIA ADVISORY:
The lecture by Sir Jeremy Quentin Greenstock scheduled for 4:30 PM in the Alumni House on Wednesday May 14, has been postponed, due to more United Nations commitments demanding Sir Jeremy's attention this week. "Winning the Peace in Iraq," the third of Adelphi President Robert A. Scott's "Ambassadorial Lecture Series" sponsored by the Adelphi University International Initiatives Committee, will be re-scheduled.

Garden City, NY
May 14, 2003

The Honorable Sir Jeremy Greenstock has had a distinguished diplomatic career in a number of positions in the Near East and North Africa. His appointment in 1995 as the Deputy Under Secretary of State included responsibility for the Middle East, Central and East Europe. He served as Political Director of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London until 1998, when he attained Britain's senior ambassadorial role at the U.N.

Ambassador Greenstock has been much quoted in recent weeks on the subject of the upheavals in Iraq. His topical presentation will certainly address whether the legitimacy of any interim post-war administration would be in question if the United Nations was not involved, and his five years at the U.N. have him uniquely placed to identify what lies ahead. For Sir Jeremy, persuading the US to accept UN involvement in the weapons hunt would relieve some of the pressure on Tony Blair, the British prime minister, at home.
