Adelphi University Opens New Corporate Social Responsibility Lecture Series with Lecture by Attorney David Boies

Garden City, NY
August 22, 2003

Internationally acclaimed litigator, David Boies will kick off Adelphi University's Hagedorn Lecture Series with a timely lecture on corporate social responsibility on September 9, 2003 at 11:00 AM in the school's Ruth S. Harley University Center. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Widely known for his victory in the Microsoft anti-trust case and for leading Al Gore's ballot recount fight, Mr. Boies has been named Lawyer of the Year by Time Magazine and The National Law Journal and was inducted into Vanity Fair's 1999 Hall of Fame. A formidable courtroom opponent, Mr. Boies has successfully taken on and defended a range of corporate Goliaths in landmark cases involving antitrust violations, copyright infringements, merchandise royalties, and price fixing. In 1999, he broke class action settlement records in forcing seven of the world’s largest drug companies to pay $1.17 billion to settle a price fixing lawsuit. His numerous other high-profile cases have involved such foes and clients as IBM, CBS, Texaco, Sotheby's, Christie's and Napster.

Currently Chairman of Boies, Schiller and Flexner, L.L.P., a 35-lawyer firm he started following a successful 30-year career with Cravath, Swain & Moore, Mr. Boies' latest client roster includes The City of Los Angeles, The New York Yankees, Calvin Klein and Don Imus.

Started in 2003 through a generous contribution from Horace and Amy Hagedorn, Adelphi's annual lectureship series on Corporate Social Responsibility enables the University to invite prominent speakers to address pressing issues of the day. The series fits with the University's overall goal to create a culture of conscience among students, faculty, staff, administrators, and local community members.
