Senator Ken LaValle to Talk on Higher Education and Technology in New York State

2003—2004 President's Series on Critical Issues

Adelphi University alumnus Senator Ken LaValle '61 will speak on Higher Education and Technology in New York State as part of the President's Series on Critical Issues on October 17, 2003 at 8:00 AM in Adelphi University's Ruth S. Harley University Center Ballroom, 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY. The lecture is free and open to the public, but reservations are required.

Senator LaValle was first elected to the Senate in 1976. He currently serves on various committees among them include the Children and Families; Codes; Education; Finance; Judiciary; and the Chairman of the Committee on Higher Education. In addition to his standing committee assignments, Senator LaValle is Chairman of the Senate Majority Conference as well as being appointed a member of the New York State Commission on National and Community Service by the governor.

During his time in office, Senator King has achieved a distinguished record in health care and education. He successfully established a Burn Unit at University Hospital in Stony Brook. His legislation to protect and advance the rights of patients earned him special recognition from the Suffolk County Breast Health Partnership. Senator LaValle has been recognized by local and statewide organizations by being named "Man of the Year" and "Legislator of the Year." In 1992, Senator LaValle was privileged to receive the honorary title "Cavaliere al Merito della Repubblica Italiana" from the Italian Government for his work in education and promoting cultural exchange.

Dr. Robert A. Scott launched Adelphi's "President's Series on Critical Issues" in 2001 to provide students, scholars, and distinguished guests with a forum in which to explore critical local, regional, national, and global topics, such as the environment, health, politics, law, and government regulations.
