A Package of Gratitude from Adelphi University to the Men and Women Serving Our Country During the Holiday Season

Garden City, NY
December 11 2003

On December 8th, 10th, and 12th Adelphi University's Office of Student Affairs will coordinate the local effort of Operation Gratitude as part of a nationwide fundraising effort to ensure that American servicemembers receive holiday gift packages as they serve overseas on active duty. Collection tables for items such as canned food, global calling cards, energy bars, small gifts, hats, and gloves will be set up in the school's Ruth S. Harley University Center at 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM each day to accept donations.
Operation Gratitude is a volunteer organization based in California. Throughout the year, they send packages to military servicemembers far from home. The packages, made up entirely from donated items, will also include personal letters of appreciation. Holiday packages will be sent to troops in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kosovo, Korea, Africa, Kuwait, and Bahrain and onto ships in all regions. Operation Gratitude, a non-government 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit corporation funded exclusively by private donations, has already sent over 4,800 care packages plans to send thousands more to U.S. troops this holiday season.
"Operation Gratitude offers the public an opportunity to express their respect and appreciation to the men and women of the United States Military," said Michael Spar, assistant director of business affairs at Adelphi and Vietnam veteran. "I am so pleased to have worked with Adelphi's Office of Student Affairs to make this program a reality on campus this holiday season."
Financial donations can also be made to defray the $25.00 per box shipping charges for the packages. Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. Checks can be made out to:
