Adelphi University Honors RENT Creator Jonathan Larson with Distinguished Alumni Award at its 109th Commencement Ceremony

Garden City, NY May 6, 2005

Adelphi University will posthumously recognize Jonathan Larson, author, composer, and lyricist of the hit Broadway production RENT, with the Ruth S. Harley Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award at its 109th Commencement ceremony, Sunday, May 15, 2005 at 10:00 AM. in Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, 1255 Hempstead Turnpike, Uniondale, NY.
Mr. Larson received numerous accolades for RENT, including the 1996 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and four 1996 Tony Awards. The film version of RENT is currently in production and is expected to be released in November 2005. His earlier work includes Superbia; tick, tick...BOOM!; and music for J.P. Morgan Saves the Nation, Sesame Street, and the children's book-cassettes An American Tail and Land Before Time. He received his B.F.A. with honors from Adelphi University in 1982.
The Ruth Stratton Harley Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award Medal was established by the Adelphi University Alumni Association's Board of Directors to salute Dr. Harley, dean emerita and member of the Adelphi College Class of 1924. Through this award, the Alumni Association seeks to recognize Dr. Harley's many decades of unparalleled devotion to the University, its alumni, and the people of our region. It is presented at Commencement each year to honor an Adelphi University alumna or alumnus for outstanding accomplishments in business or professional life, or for distinguished achievements through service to his or her community.
