Adelphi University Receives Excellence in Higher Education Award

On May 18, 2005, The Chamber of Commerce Regional Business Partnership presented Adelphi University with the "Excellence in Higher Education" award at its 12th Annual Business of the Year Awards of Excellence Gala at the Huntington Townhouse in Huntington Station, New York. The purpose of the evening is to honor businesses throughout Long Island that have dedicated their efforts to achieving remarkable success for the region, improving the quality of life in our communities, and contributing to the overall economic development.
"Adelphi University is proud to receive the Excellence in Education Award," said Adelphi President Robert A. Scott. "The University is committed to providing a high-quality education for its students while ensuring the needs of the region are met."
Through the institution's schools and colleges, more than 100 undergraduate and graduate programs of study are offered on the main Garden City campus and at off-campus locations in Hauppauge, Manhattan, and Poughkeepsie. As Adelphi grows, the academic programs evolve to reflect the needs and interests of our more than 7,750 students from 44 states and more than 60 countries including an acclaimed Honors College, impressive joint degree programs, and professional programs in social work, nursing, business, and education. Internationally recognized scholars and artists fill the ranks of Adelphi's over 600 full- and part-time faculty.
As the engaged university, Adelphi encourages student, faculty and staff participation in its extensive community service program and welcomes the community's attendance at its cultural, educational, and athletic activities. The University dedicates its resources to improving the health and well-being of the community. Adelphi provides affordable mental health services, a vital speech and hearing center, the most comprehensive breast cancer support service in New York, valuable adult fitness programs, a wide-range of literacy programs, a distinctive learning disabilities program, and innovative initiatives that emphasize sports as a positive learning experience and teach young athletes and their parents the value of sportsmanship.
A leader in arts and cultural programming, the University provides a year-long celebration of visual and performing arts including Special Invitation Exhibition and Performances; Endowed Lectures Series; presentations of Pulitzer Prize-winning musical compositions; Award-Winning Student Theatre and Dance Performances; and the U.N. Ambassadorial Lectures Series.
