Adelphi University Honors Dr. Kathleen Gallo, Ph.D. '94, M.B.A. '97, at theNursing Hall of Fame Induction Dinner on June 12, 2005

Adelphi University is proud to honor Dr. Kathleen Gallo, Ph.D. '94, M.B.A. '97, senior vice president and chief learning officer of the North Shore Long Island Jewish Health System, with the Outstanding Alumna Award at the University's Nursing Hall of Fame Induction Dinner, an evening to benefit nursing scholarships through the Mildred Montag Endowment Fund. The dinner is scheduled for June 12, 2005 at the Garden City Hotel, Garden City, NY, beginning with a cocktail hour at 5:00 p.m., followed by dinner and an award presentation. During the evening, the University will also honor Jerry Landsberg, chairman of the board of directors for the Parker Jewish Institute for Health Care and Rehabilitation and Adelphi School of Nursing Advisory Board Member, with the Outstanding Service to Adelphi University School of Nursing Award, and posthumously recognize Justina Eisenhauer Mickiewicz '47, former Adelphi School of Nursing faculty member and director of student relations, with the Outstanding Service to Adelphi University School of Nursing Students Award.

Dr. Gallo has more than 25 years experience in emergency nursing and has held a variety of clinical and administrative positions in tertiary care hospitals throughout Long Island. Prior to serving as senior vice president and chief learning officer, Dr. Gallo served as system director for emergency medicine and vice president for emergency medical services within the North Shore Shore Long Island Jewish Health System. She presently is an examiner for the Malcolm Baldrige Quality Award Program; chair of the Dean's Advisory Committee for the State University of New York at Stony Brook's School of Nursing; and a member of the Advisory Council of Research and Continuous Improvement at the National Center for Healthcare Leadership. A noted speaker who addresses a wide range of subjects, Dr. Gallo has also authored several articles on trauma and nursing research, and is a faculty member at a number of Long Island universities. Dr. Gallo received her B.S. in Nursing at Regents College - University of the State of New York, M.S. in Nursing from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, and Ph.D. in Nursing and M.B.A. from Adelphi University.

The Mildred Montag Endowment Fund is named in honor of Mildred Montag, the first director of the Adelphi School of Nursing, whose devotion as a nurse educator and innovative research profoundly influenced the University and led to the unprecedented expansion of the nursing profession. The Nursing Hall of Fame will be located on the main floor of the Adelphi Swirbul Library, and will include pictures of the inductees, as well as memorabilia and historic documents from the Adelphi School of Nursing.
