Carol A. Ammon M.B.A. '79, chairman of the board and founder of Endo Pharmaceuticals Inc., has been elected to the Adelphi University Board of Trustees. Her election expands the Board to 29 members, including 15 alumni. She will serve on the Board’s Advancement and Academic Affairs Committees.

"An exemplary alumna, Carol Ammon brings to our Board invaluable leadership and entrepreneurial experience, as well as a familiarity with Adelphi and issues in higher education," said Adelphi University Board of Trustees Chairman Michael J. Campbell '65. "I look forward to working with her and fellow trustees in ensuring that Adelphi continues to prepare the next generation of leaders."

"It’s a pleasure and an honor to return to Adelphi, where my mother, brother, and I earned degrees," said Ms. Ammon. "I am delighted to share my expertise and work with the Board to help the University add distinction to its science and business programs."

A native of New Hyde Park, NY, Ms. Ammon formed Endo Pharmaceuticals, a specialty pharmaceutical company with market leadership in pain management, in 1997 when she led a management buyout team and purchased 37 pharmaceutical products from The DuPont Merck Pharmaceutical Company. Earlier this year, she retired as chief executive officer of Endo after serving in that position for eight years. Endo became a publicly traded company in July 2000 after acquiring Algos Pharmaceutical Corporation. Based in Chadds Ford, PA, Endo also has research facilities in Westbury, NY.

Prior to forming Endo, she spent 23 years in the pharmaceutical division of E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company, serving in positions of increasing responsibility across research and development, finance, manufacturing, and sales and marketing.

In recognition of her accomplishments, Ms. Ammon was named the CEO of the Year in 2004 by the Eastern Technology Council, an organization of 800 technology and life sciences companies in the Philadelphia region. Under her leadership, Endo was the Eastern Technology Council's Company of the Year in 2003. That same year, Ms. Ammon also received the Greater Philadelphia Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award® in the Health Sciences category. Recently, she was chosen as the winner of the 2005 Paradigm Award, the Philadelphia region’s most prestigious award for businesswomen, and received the 2005 Woman of Spirit Award from the Greater Delaware Valley Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Ms. Ammon serves as director and trustee of Christiana Care of Delaware, Newark, DE. She is a trustee of Drexel University and works with students at the University of Delaware School of Business Administration and students at the University of Pennsylvania. She is also a director on the Advisory Board of the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association and the Executive Women’s Leadership Forum Foundation.

Ms. Ammon earned a B.A. from Central Connecticut State University, an M.B.A. from Adelphi University, and completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard University. She currently resides in Wilmington, DE.
