Adelphi University Recognized as a "Best Buy" in the Fiske Guide to Colleges

For the second consecutive year, Adelphi University is listed in the Fiske Guide to Colleges as one of the "best and most interesting" colleges in the United States.  In addition, Adelphi has been recognized in the guide’s elite list of "Best Buys" in higher education.  Along with Cooper Union, Adelphi is one of two private institutions in New York to receive the "Best Buy" distinction.  Only 26 private institutions in the nation were honored in this category.

Established more than 20 years ago by former New York Times education editor Edward B. Fiske, the best-selling Fiske Guide to Colleges is considered one of the United States’ most selective listings of top colleges and universities.

In his review of Adelphi, Mr. Fiske writes, "Adelphi University is experiencing a renaissance of sorts. Enrollment has increased, new facilities are sprouting up around campus, and students speak of an almost palpable sense of energy among faculty and students."

The profile cites Adelphi's challenging academics, its accessible and knowledgeable professors, and culturally diverse student body.

"We are proud to be recognized by the Fiske Guide as one of the nation’s best values in higher education,” said Adelphi President Robert A. Scott.  “We are focused on providing our nearly 8,000 students with rich and relevant learning experiences—both inside and outside the classroom. This distinction is further acknowledgment of Adelphi’s commitment to excellence, where our students are challenged in a rigorous academic environment alongside talented faculty.”

Adelphi students, faculty, alumni, and programs have been recognized nationally and internationally for their excellence and high achievement. In May 2006, the Adelphi Women’s lacrosse team won the Division II National Championship—the second time in three years. In June, Adelphi broke ground on a $98 million construction project that will expand and enhance its academic, cultural, and athletic facilities to better serve students, faculty, and the community. The new buildings and updated facilities will add classrooms, rehearsal and performances spaces, and expand facilities for student recreation and athletic competition. The project will ensure that Adelphi remains a vibrant and engaged university and the foremost private institution of higher education on Long Island.
