With nearly three quarters of the leaders of Long Island's approximately 8,000 nonprofit organizations representing the baby boom generation, the sector faces tremendous turnover, and even a potential leadership void, in the next few years.

To address the critical need to recruit and prepare new nonprofit leaders and support current executives, Adelphi University has launched the Long Island Center for Nonprofit Leadership, under the direction of Ann Marie Thigpen.

"We are thrilled to welcome Ann Marie Thigpen to her role as director of the Long Island Center for Nonprofit Leadership," said Adelphi University School of Social Work Dean Andrew Safyer, who worked with community partners to develop the Center. "She brings a wealth of experience in the nonprofit sector and has already been a trusted advisor to many nonprofit leaders. She will lend her expertise and energy to ensuring the health of the region's nonprofit sector."

Ms. Thigpen is the former director of Long Island Community Foundation's LITAC Nonprofit Solutions, an agency that provides resources to strengthen and support the management and leadership of nonprofit organizations. She has more than twenty years of experience advising over five hundred organizations and nonprofit boards on various issues, including leadership transition, board training and development, strategic planning, marketing strategies, and fundraising.

In her new role, Ms. Thigpen will work closely with the nonprofit community and Adelphi University School of Social Work to address the immediate and long-term leadership needs of Long Island's nonprofit sector. She will develop programs and services related to leadership development, particularly for new and emerging nonprofit leaders; supporting organizations during leadership transition; and assisting nonprofits with leadership and board governance issues, including strategic planning, recruitment, and board development.
