Caroline Wambui Mungai Foundation 2nd Annual Gala to Benefit Children's Homes in Kenya

WHAT: A gala will be held to raise awareness and funds for the Caroline Wambui Mungai Foundation (CWMF), an organization to benefit orphaned children in Kenya and supply them with essentials, such as medical treatment and education. In addition, the funds will support a Kenyan orphanage, as well as offer academic awards and scholarships for qualified students in the Early Childhood Education program at Adelphi University. Guests of honor for the evening include Adelphi University President Robert A. Scott, Adelphi University Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Marcia G. Welsh, Kenyan Ambassador to the United States H.E. Peter Ogego, Congressman Gregory W. Meeks, and Hempstead Town Councilwoman Dorothy L. Goosby.

Guests will enjoy a poetry presentation by Dr. Suzanne Stutman and performances by the Frances Rhymes Dance Group and Dance to African Music.

WHERE: Adelphi's Ruth S. Harley University Center Ballroom, 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY

VISUALS/ INTERVIEWS: Dance performances, poetry presentation, and speeches by the guests of honor. Interviews are available with volunteers who visited Kenya this past summer, as well as Dr. George Mungai, president, and Dr. Anne M. Mungai, vice president, of the Caroline Wambui Mungai Foundation.

BACKGROUND: The Caroline Wambui Mungai Foundation was established in December 2004 as a memorial tribute for Caroline, a graduate student in Early Childhood Education at Adelphi University, who passed away on November 10, 2004. The first CWMF Home opened its doors on January 10, 2005 in Nairobi, and is currently providing shelter, education, and medical services for 40 orphans and vulnerable children between the ages of three and four.
