Adelphi University Re-launches its M.B.A. Program in Health Services Administration

Garden City, NY
November 30, 2006

Health care employment on Long Island grew by more than 38 percent
between 1990 and 2004, according to an annual health care report published by the Long Island Association. The United States Department of Labor projects the employment trend of medical and health services
administrators will grow 18 to 26 percent through 2014. As the health services sector grows both regionally and nationally, so does the need for well-trained health services administrators.
Adelphi University, long recognized as a leader in business administration and the health and social service fields, has re-launched its M.B.A. program in health services administration. The interdisciplinary program from the School of Business and School of Nursing prepares students for administrative leadership positions in a range of health care and medical organizations, including hospitals, long-term care facilities, pharmaceutical and bio-technology companies, and home care agencies and hospices.
"Our School of Nursing has been training health care leaders for decades," said Adelphi School of Nursing Dean Patrick R. Coonan. "This specialty M.B.A. program, with its unique clinical component, builds upon this strong foundation and will prepare students to respond to the modern health care environment and to meet the diverse needs of the rapidly changing field."
"The structured interdisciplinary program will provide students looking for opportunities within the health care industry with the essential management skills that have been a hallmark of our M.B.A. program," said Adelphi School of Business Dean Anthony F. Libertella. "This program greatly benefits the region, and our graduates will be highly marketable in this growing field."
The innovative 69-credit program (of which 33 credits may be waived with prior appropriate undergraduate business preparation) includes core courses in quality management and regulation in health care, health care policy and management, health care finance, as well as a clinical course with an experiential approach to operations and a health services administration internship.
Applications are currently being accepted for the spring semester. To apply, please contact the Office of Admissions at 516.877.3050 or email graduateadmissions@adelphi.edu. For additional information about the program, please contact Dr. K.C. Rondello at 516.877.4544 or email rondello@adelphi.edu.
