Adelphi University has elected Michael J. Driscoll M.B.A. '89, senior managing director of Bear, Stearns & Co. Inc., to its Board of Trustees. Elected in December 2006, he joins 26 fellow trustees and will serve on the Board's Advancement and Finance and Administration committees.
"An exemplary alumnus, Michael Driscoll has continued to demonstrate his commitment to Adelphi and has achieved the highest levels of success within his profession," said Adelphi University Board of Trustees Chairman Michael J. Campbell ’65. "His dedication, energy, and proven managerial skills will be a tremendous asset to the Board of Trustees as we continue to build on Adelphi’s legacy."
"I am most honored to be elected by my fellow Trustees to serve on the Board of my alma mater," said Mr. Driscoll. "I look forward to working with them to carry out the bold vision and plans they and President Robert A. Scott have set for the University and cement Adelphi's role as a leader in the region."
With more than 20 years of experience on Wall Street, Mr. Driscoll has been recognized by Institutional Investor as one of the best on Wall Street, and has been consistently ranked in the top tier of Wall Street traders by Autex. He is a senior managing director on Bear, Stearns’s NYSE-listed trading desk and is primarily responsible for trading securities in the global energy and domestic aerospace and defense sectors.
Mr. Driscoll is widely respected for his involvement in issues supportive of children. He was named Man of the Year in 2002 by the Member’s Handicapped Children’s Fund, and was presented with the Lombardo Award for his fundraising success. In addition, he has devoted his time and energy to Children’s Neurobiological Solutions (CNS), whose mission is to treat children with neurological disorders, as well as the St. Christopher-Ottilie Orphanage, and the Reed Academy, a private educational center for individuals with autism spectrum disorders.
Mr. Driscoll has been a generous supporter of Adelphi alumni programs. He co-hosted a Wall Street reception in New York City's Grand Havana Room, bringing together distinguished alumni from the financial services industry. Last winter, he helped kick-off Adelphi's first-ever C.O.A.C.H. (Count on Alumni for Career Help) event, "Careers in Finance" at Bear, Stearns & Co. Inc. In 2006, Adelphi honored Mr. Driscoll and presented him with the President's Award for Outstanding Achievement and Friendship at its annual Golf Classic. He helped the University raise a record $165,000 for student athletic scholarships, making it the most successful Golf Classic to date.
Before earning his M.B.A. from Adelphi University, Mr. Driscoll graduated with a B.S. from SUNY Maritime College, where he earned a Third Mates License in the United States Merchant Marine.
