Adelphi University to Host Top High School Researchers at the Annual Long Island Junior Science and Humanities Symposium

Adelphi University is pleased to host and co-sponsor with the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, and the Academy of Applied Science, the Annual Long Island Junior Science and Humanities Symposium on Friday, March 2, 2007, in Adelphi University's Ruth S. Harley University Center Ballroom, 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY, from 7:15 AM to 4:00 PM. This year, 214 high school students from 53 schools submitted original science, mathematics, and social science research projects. Of those, 120 students, including 47 Long Island Intel semi-finalists and three finalists, have been selected to present their work to research experts and leaders in their fields.

The purpose of this highly competitive program is to publicly recognize high school students for their outstanding achievement and to increase the number of trained and talented adults prepared to conduct research and development vital to our nation. The day’s program will include a keynote address by Dr. Brian Donnelly, director of global security for the Americas, division of pharmacology and forensic toxicology for Pfizer, Inc. He a recipient of several honors and awards from the FBI, Department of Veterans Affairs, and United States Attorneys Office. The first, second, and third place finalists will receive undergraduate tuition-based scholarships of $2,000, $1,500, and $1,000, respectively. The first and second place finalists will be eligible to present their research at the 45th National Junior Science and Humanities Symposium in Huntsville, Alabama from May 2 to May 6, 2007. The top five finalists will receive an expense-paid trip to the national symposium.
