Adelphi University Graduates the Class of
2007 at its 111th Commencement

Adelphi University will confirm more than 2,400 graduates at the associate's, bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels at its 111th Commencement on Monday, May 21, 2007, at 10:00 AM in the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, 1255 Hempstead Turnpike, Uniondale, NY. A separate hooding ceremony for doctoral candidates will be held at 4:30 PM on Sunday, May 20, 2007 on the University's Levermore Lawn, 1 South Ave, Garden City, NY. Congressman John Lewis will deliver the Commencement Address and will be recognized with an honorary degree.
Monday’s Commencement will begin with the academic procession, which includes members of the Board of Trustees, University President Robert A. Scott, the honorees, and graduates. During the program, Board Chairman Michael J. Campbell ’65 and Dr. Scott will also bestow honorary degrees to:
- William Borten ’57, former Adelphi University Trustee and CEO of Atlantic Research Corporation, and his wife Judith Borten ’57
- Donna Orender, president of the Women’s National Basketball Association
- Cecil Watkins '75, M.A. '86, governor and boys basketball chairman of New York Metropolitan Amateur Athletic Union, and president and CEO of National Pro-Am City Leagues
Also receiving recognition during Commencement will be Dr. Robert Moldwin ’80, who will receive the Ruth S. Harley Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award.
Following the presentation of the honorary degrees and awards, Congressman John Lewis, a leader in the civil rights movement, will deliver the Commencement Address. Since 1987, he has represented the 5th Congressional District of Georgia. He served as president of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee and led the fight to end segregation. He is the author of the award-winning book, Walking With the Wind: A Memoir of the Movement, a deeply moving account about his involvement in the civil rights movement. He is a recipient of the lifetime achievement award from the John. F. Kennedy Presidential Library. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the American Baptist Theological Seminary and Fisk University.
