The national competition received more than 14,000 entries from all 50 states and 5 continents.

Since his appointment as Adelphi's ninth president in July 2000, Dr. Scott has built on the University's rich traditions in undergraduate and graduate education and continues to link the liberal arts and sciences with professional programs. Adelphi is the first university in the metropolitan New York area to offer an M.S. in physics with a concentration in optics. Under his leadership, Adelphi opened its first new residence hall in 36 years to accommodate growing student demand, and constructed a new Fine Arts Facility for sculpture, ceramics, painting, print-making, and exhibit space. Adelphi has also embarked on an historic construction project that will add new recreation, sports, and performing arts centers to the Garden City campus. Adelphi was one of only 26 private universities nationwide to be named a "Best Buy" by the top-selling Fiske Guide to Colleges 2007.
