Lindsey Nederlander M.A. '02, Ph.D. '06 Elected to Adelphi University Board of Trustees

Lindsey Nederlander
Adelphi University has elected Lindsey Nederlander M.A. '02, Ph.D. '06, to its Board of Trustees. Dr. Nederlander is currently a faculty member at Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons, and the New York State Psychiatric Institute/Columbia University Medical Center. She also works at the Center for the Study of Anorexia and Bulimia at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy, and is developing a women's clinic that will focus on issues of self-esteem and beauty. Dr. Nederlander joins 26 fellow Trustees and will serve on the Academic Affairs and Finance committees.

"I am happy to welcome Lindsey Nederlander to the Adelphi University Board of Trustees," said Adelphi University Board of Trustees Chairman Michael J. Campbell '65. "She understands the value of higher education and will bring new ideas and energy to build on Adelphi’s success."

"I am honored to have this opportunity to serve on the Board of my alma mater and play a vital role in achieving the University's goals," said Dr. Nederlander.

Dr. Nederlander's research and expertise includes eating disorders, child development, psychotherapy, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. In 2005, she completed an internship with Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, where she was the primary therapist on the eating disorders/depression/substance abuse inpatient unit. Dr. Nederlander has been working on a federally-funded research project investigating anxiety genetics and fear conditioning.

After graduating magna cum laude from New York University in 2000, Dr. Nederlander pursued her doctorate in clinical psychology at Adelphi University. After witnessing the World Trade Center attacks on September 11, she focused her doctoral dissertation research on Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, namely on creativity as a coping mechanism for trauma survivors.

During her years at Adelphi University, Dr. Nederlander also worked as a clinical therapist and psychometrician in the Derner Institute's Center for Psychological Services, led an Adult Children of Alcoholics group, completed an externship at the New York Psychoanalytic Institute, and continued her work in the Child Development Center at the Jewish Board of Family and Children's Services.

Dr. Nederlander is generous with her time and support to various organizations. She serves on the National Campaign Steering Committee of Choate Rosemary Hall. She is on the Dean's Council Committee at New York University's Gallatin School, and has recently conducted a Dean's Roundtable for students interested in a career in psychology. She is a member of the Advisory Board of The Hassenfeld Children's Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at New York University Medical Center, Consultancy Board of Elegant Bride magazine, and Special Events Working Committee at the New York City Ballet.

Dr. Nederlander earned her undergraduate degree from The Gallatin School of Individualized Study at New York University, where she studied music, theatre, and psychology. She holds an M.A. and Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Adelphi University. She lives in New York City with her husband, Eric, a Broadway theatre producer and theatre owner.
