Adelphi University School of Social Work Hosts its Second Annual Summer Institute

Adelphi University School of Social Work will host its Second Annual Summer Institute, from July 16 through July 27, 2007, in Adelphi's Alumni House, 154 Cambridge Avenue, Garden City, NY. The training program will focus on issues of clinical practice, addictions, mental health, and nonprofit leadership and management. It is geared toward human service professionals who want to expand their knowledge and skills to better meet the needs of their clients and organizations, as well as those in the nonprofit field responding to the leadership challenges facing the sector on Long Island. Featured speakers include experts in social work, psychology, psychotherapy, nursing, leadership, and management.  Participants will attend workshops with instructors who are nationally recognized in their areas.

Clinical Practice and Addictions

July 16 - Clinical and Cultural Competency in Psychotherapy with Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual Clients

July 17 - An Overview of Psychopharmacology for Collaborative Practice

July 18 - Autism Spectrum Disorders: Diagnosis and Treatment

July 20 - Working with Difficult Adolescents: Advanced Treatment Strategies

July 24 - Narrative Means to Sober Ends: Treating Addictions and Their Aftermath

July 26 - Self-Mutilation: Etiology and Treatment

July 27 - Eating Disorders: Challenges and Complexities


Nonprofit and Leadership Management
July 19 - Nuts and Bolts of Board Management

July 23 - 21st Century Fundraising

July 25 - The Art of Leading


Participants will earn continuing education units provided by the New York State Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers. Adelphi University will offer continuing education credits to psychologists with approval from the American Psychological Association.  All clinical practice and addictions programs have been approved for Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counseling (CASAC) training hours (except for the program on autism).
