Gerald Mahoney
Adelphi University is pleased to honor Board of Trustee member Gerald F. Mahoney '65 at its 19th Annual Golf Classic on Monday, September 24, 2007, at Cherry Valley Club, Garden City, NY. Mr. Mahoney retired in 2001 as chairman, chief executive officer, and director of Mail-Well, Inc.  He is a member and former treasurer of the Noyac Golf Club and serves as chairman of three privately-owned companies.

During his decade-long tenure with Mail-Well, Mr. Mahoney oversaw the acquisition of Georgia-Pacific’s envelope business, as well as 50 strategic buyouts of competitors in the United States and Canada. In 1995, he guided the company’s IPO, first on the NASDAQ, and later on the NYSE.

After retirement, Mr. Mahoney was recruited to become a board member, and later interim CEO and chairman of Florida-based Workflow Management, another publicly traded printing firm. He subsequently supervised the successful sale of the company. He remains active in business, through investments in several privately-owned companies, where he is a board member, and chairman of three of the companies.

A native of Brooklyn, Mr. Mahoney came to Adelphi after being accepted in a combined five-year engineering program with Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He ultimately chose mathematics over physics, and remained at Adelphi. During his time at Adelphi, Mr. Mahoney was a member and president of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity, and served as president of the Inter-Fraternity Council. After graduating from Adelphi, he received a scholarship from Northeastern University, where he earned his master's in accounting. Mr. Mahoney and his wife JoAnne now divide their time between Sag Harbor, New York, and Boca Raton, Florida.

This year’s golf classic has shotguns scheduled at 7:15 AM and 12:30 PM.  Proceeds from the event will benefit student athletic scholarships. Last year's event raised a record $165,000 in scholarship support.

Co-chairs of the event are John P. Finnerty M.S. '77 of WJM Associates, Inc. and Stephen M. Wirth '70 of the New York Sports and Physical Therapy Institute. Early sponsors include Allstate Insurance Company, Pacific Lawn and Sprinkler, Bank of New York, Intelli-Tec Security Services, Damon G. Douglas Company, Newsday, J.C. & F. Services, Data Tech Solutions, Inc., and Verizon.

For more information, to make a golf reservation, or to make a contribution toward student athletic scholarships, please contact Jaime Farrell, Adelphi University assistant director of annual giving, at 516.877.4689 or farrell@adelphi.edu.
