As the need for trained emergency managers increases, Adelphi University is pleased to announce that it will offer its first national online programs, A.S. and B.S. degrees in emergency services administration, beginning September 17, 2007. The degrees are designed for students who want a liberal arts-based degree to prepare them for a career in the emerging field of emergency services planning, management, and administration.

The online courses include principles of emergency services, emergency services management and administration, and emergency services leadership, among others. Students can apply for a maximum of 60 credits in prior learning that can be applied to this degree program, with a maximum of 16 from emergency services experience. Prior learning credits can come from fire or police academy training, or EMS certification programs. Individuals who are currently working in fields related to emergency services, including police officers, fire fighters, emergency medical technicians, and military personnel, are especially encouraged to pursue the degree.

The degree program is available entirely online or can be completed by taking a mixture of online and live instruction courses. The online option gives students the ability to earn their 120 credits from the comfort of their home or office computer. The traditional, live-instruction format is offered at Adelphi's Garden City campus, as well as Hauppauge and Manhattan Centers.
