Internally renowned therapist Peggy Papp, M.S.W., C.S.W., FAPA will be the featured speaker at Adelphi University’s School of Social Work third edition of the Master Series of Family Therapists, "Treating Troubled Adolescents and Their Families," on Friday, October 12, 2007, from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM in Adelphi’s Ruth S. Harley University Center, 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY. Professionals working in educational, administration, and clinical settings, as well as parents and community members are encouraged to attend the conference. Registration is required.
Ms. Papp is a supervising faculty member of the Ackerman Institute for the Family, and founder and director of Ackerman's Depression and Gender Project. She has authored and co-authored numerous articles and books on family therapy, including The Process of Change and The Invisible Web: Gender Patterns in Family Relationships. Her publications have been translated into many languages. She has presented extensively in the United States, Europe, Japan, Argentina, and Israel. Ms. Papp is a recipient of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy's Lifetime Achievement Award and has been honored by the American Family Therapy Academy for her pioneering work on the Women's Project for Family Therapy. In addition to her role at Ackerman, she has a private practice in family therapy in New York City.
At the workshop, Ms. Papp will present a model for working with adolescents that is rooted in the belief that family support and connection are crucial for adolescents. The goal of this approach is to repair the strained relationships between adolescents and their families so that their transition into adulthood will be a positive experience.
