Adelphi University’s Institute for Parenting is pleased to host child psychologist and author Cynthia Monahon, Psy.D., who will be the second speaker in the Institute’s Parent Coffee Series, presenting "Parenting in the Wake of Trauma," on Thursday, November 8, 2007, from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM, in Adelphi’s Alumni House, 154 Cambridge Avenue, Garden City, NY. An interactive Q&A session will follow. Parents and community members are encouraged to attend. The registration fee is $10.

Parenting a child who has experienced various forms of trauma can be confusing, discouraging, and frightening. Following one’s personal instincts doesn’t work with very anxious children. Dr. Monahon will discuss many ways in which parents can help young children. Dr. Monahon is the director of the Children’s Clinic in Northampton, Massachusetts and author of Children and Trauma: A Guide for Parents and Professionals.

To register, please contact Marcy Safyer at 516.877.3060 or msafyer@adelph.edu. For additional information about other Institute for Parenting events, please visit http://www.adelphi.edu/parentinginstitute/.
