His Excellency Zachary Muburi-Muita, Kenya Ambassador to the United Nations, will deliver a lecture, "Economic and Sustainable Development: A Challenge for Africa," on Thursday, March 20, 2008, at 12:00 p.m. in the Ruth S. Harley University Center Ballroom, 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY. The lecture, sponsored by the University’s International Initiatives Committee, is free and open to the public.

Ambassador Muburi-Muita has served as the permanent representative of the Republic of Kenya to the United Nations since September 2006. A diplomat of 25 years, he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1982 and worked in all the departments. He also previously served in various Foreign Missions including Khartoum, The Hague, Tel Aviv, and Dar es Salaam. Prior to his appointment as ambassador and permanent representative, he was the former high commissioner to Tanzania.

The International Initiatives Committee is a campus-wide group of faculty, administrators, and students charged with infusing courses and campus events with internationalized content. The IIC allows the University to offer dynamic programs such as its acclaimed Ambassador Series in intimate settings so students, faculty, and the public have the opportunity to hear first-hand, global perspectives on issues of international concern.
