Civil Rights Activist and Award-Winning Producer Judy Richardson to Speak at Adelphi University

Adelphi University is pleased to welcome nationally known civil rights activist and award-winning producer Judy Richardson, who will speak about the courageous struggles of men and women during the civil rights movement and its impact on racial disparity. The lecture will be delivered on Monday, March 24, 2008, at 7:00 p.m., in Adelphi’s Ruth S. Harley University Center Ballroom, 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY. The event is free and open to the public.

Ms. Richardson is associate producer of the award-winning series, Eyes on the Prize, which highlights key events of the civil rights movement. She also co-produced the PBS American Experience series, Malcolm X: Make It Plain, which received a Peabody Award. She is a senior producer at Northern Light Productions in Boston, Massachusetts.

A member of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, Ms. Richardson co-edited Hands on the Freedom Plow, a collection of writings published by the committee which chronicles the activism of more than 50 women during the Southern Freedom Movement in the early 1960s.

Ms. Richardson co-founded the Drum & Spear Bookstore in Washington, D.C., the largest African American bookstore in the country.
