Fourth Annual Nursing Leadership and Research Conference At Adelphi University

The Adelphi University School of Nursing, and the Alpha Omega chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International, is pleased to host the fourth annual Nursing Leadership and Research Conference, “The Art of Leadership through Education, Technology, and Service,” on Thursday, April 3, 2008, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at The Woodlands, 1 Southwoods Road, Woodbury, NY. The conference will highlight the importance of research and education in the development of nursing leaders, in addition to the utilization and impact of technology on healthcare as it relates to nursing practice. Professionals in clinical practice, nurse educators, faculty, administrators, and students are encouraged to attend.

The conference features keynote speaker Carol Picard, Ph.D., R.N., CS, nursing professor at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. She is a professor and psychiatric clinical specialist with 33 years of experience in nursing. Dr. Picard is also the immediate past president of Sigma Theta Tau International and most recently, chaired the Futures Advisory Council, charged with setting the strategic directions for the organization. Her publications and presentations cover areas related to leadership, international collaboration in nursing, the use of the arts and humanities in nursing, as well as clinical issues of chronic mental illness, and nursing education.

The conference will include presentations by other prominent speakers in the field, including Diana Mason, Ph.D., R.N., FAAN, editor-in-chief of American Journal of Nursing; Pearl John-Stiell, M.A., R.N., CAN, deputy executive director of patient care services at Kings County Hospital Center; Akram Boutros, M.D., FACE, executive vice president and chief administrative officer of St. Francis Hospital-The Heart Center; and Patrick R. Coonan, Ed.D., R.N., CNAA, dean of the School of Nursing at Adelphi University. The day also features workshops and breakout sessions and poster presentations.
