Adelphi University Presents Six Music Concerts in April

Adelphi University is pleased to offer an array of free music concerts featuring world-renowned musicians, guest artists, and students. All events are held in Adelphi University’s Ruth S. Harley University Center Ballroom, 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY, unless noted otherwise.

Adelphi New Music IV
Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at 7:30 p.m.


The Adelphi Music Department will continue its tradition of bringing crucial works of contemporary music to the public with the fourth annual New Music program. The concert is framed by solo piano works by Adrian Williams and George Rochberg, both entitled Partita Variations, and features Two Studies by leading Polish composer Pawel Szymanski, among others.

Trio Solisti
Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at 7:30 p.m.


Trio Solisti, Adelphi’s ensemble-in-residence, returns for their final appearance of the season. They will offer a grand musical tour of works from Germany, Spain, Russia, and Hungary. The ensemble will perform Ghost by Ludwig van Beethoven, Trio No. 2 by Dmitri Shostakovich, and others. The members of Trio Solisti have performed throughout the United States and in 23 countries around the globe. All three members have been frequent guests of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, and have collaborated on performances with some of the finest musicians in the world.

Musical Theatre in Concert
Sunday, April 6, 2008, at 7:00 p.m.


Under the direction of Adelphi Faculty Member Michael Hume, a talented student cast will perform songs, duets, and ensembles from classic and contemporary Broadway shows.

Simone Dinnerstein
Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at 8:00 p.m.


Considered one of the most compelling pianists performing today, Simone Dinnerstein has garnered rave reviews both nationally and internationally. She will perform Johann Sebastian Bach's Goldberg Variations, the work in which she made her Weill Hall debut recital.

Adelphi Symphony Orchestra

Cathedral of the Incarnation

General admission tickets are $12; student (under 16) and senior citizen tickets are $8; and Adelphi student and faculty tickets are free (with ID).

The Adelphi Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Chorus join forces with the Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys for a performance of Henry Purcell’s Ode for St. Cecilia’s Day 1692, featuring marvelous choruses, solos, and duets. The evening will also include performances of Sonata for Strings and Percussion by Pawel Szymanski and Concierto del Sur by Manuel Ponce, with William Zito, solo guitar.

Adelphi Jazz Ensemble
Monday, April 28, 2008, at 7:30 p.m.


A brilliant group of Adelphi singers and musicians will display their improvisational jazz skills, led by Adelphi Music Faculty Member Dave Lobenstein.
