Lon Gorman, Retired Vice Chairman of The Charles Schwab Corporation, to Receive Honorary Degree from Adelphi University

Lon Gorman, retired vice chairman of The Charles Schwab Corporation, will receive an honorary doctor of laws degree from Adelphi University at its 112th Commencement ceremony on Monday, May 19, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. in the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, 1255 Hempstead Turnpike, Uniondale, NY.
Mr. Gorman is currently chairman of the board of directors of NYFIX, an electronic trading solutions company. He has been on the board of directors for The Nasdaq Stock Market, Inc. (NASDAQ) since 2003, and was recently appointed as an industry director for the newly formed NASDAQ OMX Group, Inc. The NASDAQ OMX Group was formed as a result of the merger of NASDAQ, Inc. and OMX Group, and the subsequent investment by the Dubai Investment Trust in the combined entity. Mr. Gorman is one of a few select individuals chosen to serve on both the boards of the NASDAQ Exchange and The NASDAQ OMX Group.
While at Charles Schwab, Mr. Gorman oversaw Schwab Capital Markets L.P., Schwab’s NASDAQ market making subsidiary, institutional brokerage and research, fixed income sales and trading, options trading, regional special business, and routing decisions for all Schwab order flow. He was also responsible for Schwab’s Asset Management Products and Services Enterprise, including various divisions of Schwab’s $250 million asset management business. Mr. Gorman joined Charles Schwab in 1996, following 16 years at Credit Suisse First Boston, where he was managing director and head of global equity trading. Prior to his position at Credit Suisse, Mr. Gorman was a partner at F. Eberstadt & Co., Inc. responsible for institutional sales and trading.
A resident of Quogue, New York and Delray Beach, Florida, Mr. Gorman is the former vice chairman of the board of directors of the Securities Industry Association; a former member of the Upstairs Traders Advisory, Competitive Review, and Allocation Committees of the NYSE; and former chairman and CEO of Schwab Capital Markets L.P.
Adelphi University will confirm more than 2,500 graduates at the associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels at its Commencement. Adelphi President Robert A. Scott will deliver the Commencement address. Honorary degrees will also be conferred upon Adele C. Smithers, philanthropist and president of The Christopher D. Smithers Foundation, and Paul Taylor, choreographer and founder of the Paul Taylor Dance Company.
