Adelphi University Honors Lorraine Hannon '90 with the Ruth Stratton Harley Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award at its 112th Commencement Ceremony

Lorraine Hannon '90 will receive the Ruth Stratton Harley Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award from Adelphi University at its 112th Commencement on Monday, May 19, 2008. The ceremony will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, 1255 Hempstead Turnpike, Uniondale, NY.
Deputy Chief Hannon is a 25-year veteran of the Nassau County Police Department. Over the course of her career, she has attained eight ranks within the organization and served in nine different commands. She has held leadership positions in both the operational and support sectors, including the Internal Affairs Unit, the Third Precinct, and the Personnel and Accounting Bureau.
A dedicated alumna, Deputy Chief Hannon has participated in the Office of Alumni Relations’s COACH program to provide Adelphi students with opportunities to explore careers in law enforcement. In addition, she served as a panelist for the University’s Women in History Celebration. In 2007, Nassau Community College recognized her contributions to “Breaking the Glass Ceiling.”
Deputy Chief Hannon is a resident of Rockville Centre, NY. She earned her undergraduate degrees from Adelphi University in 1990 and will receive an M.B.A. degree from Molloy College in 2008. She is a member of the National Internal Affairs Investigators Association, the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Nassau County Municipal Police Chiefs Association, the American Academy for Professional Law Enforcement, and the Nassau County Association of Women Police.
The Ruth Stratton Harley Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award was established to salute Ruth S. Harley, dean emerita and member of the Adelphi College Class of 1924. The award is given each year by the Adelphi University Alumni Association on behalf of the president of the University to honor an Adelphi University alumna or alumnus for remarkable achievements in business or professional life, or for distinguished accomplishments through service to his or her community, state, or country.
