Adelphi University welcomes the return of Mary Matalin and James Carville to its new Performing Art Center (AU PAC) on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. for the lecture, “All's Fair: Love, War and PoliticsAn Evening with Mary Matalin and James Carville,” in the Concert Hall, 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY. Matalin and Carville have been key players on the national political stage, having between them worked for every president over the last 25 years. In this presentation, they will offer their unique experience as perennial political insiders to provide a stimulating, candid, and provocative analysis of the day’s headlines and today’s hot-button political issues from both sides of the political aisle just before the November presidential election. The ticketed event is sponsored by the William E. Simon Lecture in American Civilizations and Values.
Mary Matalin is known as one of the foremost Republican political strategists and consultants in the country. She formerly served as assistant to President George W. Bush and counselor to Vice President Dick Cheney, and was the first White House official to hold that double title. She previously hosted CNN’s debate program Crossfire and other political shows. She now runs a new conservative publishing imprint at Simon & Schuster.
Democratic political strategist James Carville achieved national fame as the lead strategist of Bill Clinton’s successful presidential bid in 1992 and was honored as Campaign Manager of the Year by the American Association of Political Consultants in 1993. Since then, he has served as a regular CNN commentator and contributor, and now co-hosts a critically acclaimed sports radio talk show on XM Satellite Radio, 60/20 Sports with Luke Russert.
This is Matalin and Carville’s second joint appearance at Adelphi. In 2004, following the publication of their co-authored national bestseller, All's Fair: Love, War, and Running for President, they gave a sell-out presentation on the political landscape in Washington and the upcoming presidential election in detail.
The endowment of the William E. Simon Lecture in American Civilization and Values is indicative of Mr. Simon’s dedication to educational excellence and civic responsibility. The generous gift to Adelphi created a preeminent forum for world leaders who exemplify a commitment to the culture and beliefs that have shaped America.
Tickets for the event are $10 for the public; $5 for faculty, staff, and alumni with a valid Adelphi ID, and $2 for students (limit one per ID; additional tickets may be purchased for full price).
